You will study a combination of core and specialist route modules that provide the skills and knowledge you will need to meet the challenges of postgraduate study.

Core modules

Academic English Skills
Academic English Skills aims to provide you with thorough training in the language and related academic skills which will enable you to best achieve your academic potential at University.  These skills include the processes of academic writing, effective and extensive reading strategies, effective participation in seminars and delivery of presentations, and listening to and recording information effectively from lectures. You will also develop the accuracy and range of written and spoken language required to use language effectively and appropriately, with clarity and confidence in an academic context.

Route modules

Research Methods
Developing effective research skills is a crucial part of postgraduate study. This module will teach you how to collect research data and materials related to your subject area and how to analyse your findings. You will also study quantitative and qualitative research techniques and explore written and electronic sources of information.

Introduction to Statistical Analysis
Study common mathematical techniques and learn how you can use them to challenge hypotheses in academic research or inform the decision-making process in work-based environments. This module focuses on practical application, using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) software, newly re-branded as PASW (Predictive Analytics SoftWare). 

Business Ethics
Learn about the moral, philosophical and sociological theories related to ethics and integrity in all kind of businesses, nationally and globally. Explore moral dilemmas confronting businesses, their owners, managers and staff.

Analytical Techniques and Problem Solving
Find out how an analytic approach towards your studies can deepen your understanding. Learn about critical reasoning and explore a range of problem-solving techniques.

Introduction to Business and Management
Develop a greater understanding of the key areas within the Business and Management master’s course. Understand the key academic concepts and issues related to operations management and organisational behaviour. Learn how to critically analyse key business-related models.

Individual Research Project
Undertake an extended research project, using what you have learned about research methods and selecting and using material appropriately and effectively.

Progression to your degree at Keele

Pre-master's is structured to give you regular feedback on your progress and to ensure you are meeting all the learning outcomes required for success on your Keele University degree course. Progression is subject to achieving the minimum English requirements Academic English Skills (AES) and subject module grades.

The grades outlined below indicate the entry requirements to progress for the 2018/19 academic year and these are for illustration purposes only. To be eligible to progress to their chosen Master’s degree students must:

  • Achieve at least 40% in all subject modules.
  • Achieve at least 60% in AES.

You will be advised of the minimum requirements for progression for 2018/19 on arrival at the ISC.

100% of Business and Management Pre-Masters students who completed their course were offered a place to study at Keele University in 2017.
