What is the International Year One?

It is a programme of academic subjects, study skills and English language training that is equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree.

Structure and length

The 2 semester International Year One programme, is a programme where you will study a combination of core and subject-specific modules that focus on the academic areas most useful to your chosen degree.

Assessment

To ensure you make steady progress and achieve the results you need, we’ll give you regular assessments. These include exams, coursework, presentations and extended essays.

Progress to your degree

Once you complete the programme, and achieve the required grades, you can enter the second year of your chosen undergraduate degree at Keele University.

Pre-Sessional English

If you need to improve your IELTS score before studying on the International Year One, then you can choose to study either the 5 week or 10 week Pre-Sessional English programme. These programmes are designed to develop your English language reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, so that you can meet the entry requirements for the International Year One programme prior to joining in October or January*.

NB: Only IELTS academic for UKVI (SELT) are accepted for Pre-Sessional English course, however, it is included in the Combined Visa.
